Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has officially launched the “One Ward One Project” initiative of his administration aimed at taking development to all the 184 wards in the state.

The “One Ward, One Project” Initiative of Abia State Government kicked off with the commissioning of Umudere-Olokoro Umuahia ultramodern Civic Hall.

Commissioning the project, Governor Ikpeazu said that the “One Ward, One Project” Initiative was “one of our many efforts to make sure we run an inclusive government which will involve the Traditional Rulers, the Development Union Presidents and other stakeholders”.

He stressed that the project would be driven from rural communities to the urban areas.

The Governor stated that in addition to the hall built, government would provide one million naira for the community to drill bore-hole and procure chairs for the hall. He noted that projects being done under the “One Ward, One Project” initiative are projects after the people’s hearts.

Ikpeazu expressed happiness that the hall, which, according to him, was built following an initial report to him by one of the sons of the area, has brought joy to the people. He charged members of the community to protect the hall and other government projects in their area from vandals and miscreants.

Dr Ikpeazu expressed appreciation to the Umudere-Olokoro community for conferring on him the chieftaincy title of Omeroha 1 of Olokoro and promised not to let them down.

In his address, the Executive Chairman of Umuahia South Local Government Area, Prince Eze Ogbulafor, thanked the Governor for kick-starting the “One Ward One Project” initiative in his LGA, stating that it shows that the Governor loves Olokoro and Umuahia South people. The Chairman assured the Governor that he needs not come to Umuahia South to campaign for re-election in 2019 as the people were poised to re-elect him.

Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor and Coordinator of Abia State Rural Infrastructure Development Initiative, Chief Ike Onyenwaku, thanked Dr Ikpeazu for fulfilling another campaign promise he made during the last general elections; to provide each ward with one project.

He called on the people of Ahiukwu Ward 2 in Olokoro and Umudere community to ensure that they obtain their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) and vote massively for Ikpeazu in 2019.

Earlier, the Traditional Ruler of Umudere-Olokoro, Eze Godwin Ebo, conferred the chieftaincy title of “Omereoha” on the Governor, expressing appreciation for “his giant development strides”. He promised to mobilise his people to vote for Ikpeazu in 2019 to reward him for his good performance in office.

At a recent interactive session with Abians, Governor Ikpeazu informed that town unions, stakeholders and traditional rulers in every ward are responsible for selecting the project for each ward in what he described as “bottom to top development approach aimed at returning power to the people”.
