Google Honors Martin Luther King Jr. With Inspirational Doodle 

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 15, Google celebrated the legacy of the civil rights icon with an inspirational Doodle inspired by King’s “I Have a Dream Speech.”

“Today we celebrate the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., Baptist minister, Nobel Laureate, and civil rights activist who dedicated his life working tirelessly for peace, social justice, and opportunity for all Americans — irrespective of color or creed,” Google writes on its website.

The Doodle doesn’t feature King himself, but instead portrays a large multi-cultural crowd surrounding the Washington Monument Reflecting Pool, witnessing the civil rights leader’s historic speech.

The Doodle was designed by artist Cannaday Chapman and developed in collaboration with the Black Googlers Network. The artist says the illustration was “inspired by people.”

“It may appear that this movement or any civil rights movement was brought about by one person, but it’s the people that have the power to bring change. I wanted to make an image about those people,” Chapman says.
