Patience Jonathan: Court orders permanent forfeiture of N9.2bn, $8.4m

A Federal High Court in Lagos Monday ordered the permanent forfeiture of the sums of N9.2 billion and $8.4 million recovered from the wife of former Nigerian President, Patience Jonathan to the Federal Government.
The judgment delivered by Justice Mojisola Olatoregun followed a lawsuit filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
The anti-graft alleged that the funds were proceeds of crime, according to the Guardian report.
Patience, through her lawyers, Chief Ifedayo Adedipe (SAN) and Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), opposed the application and insisted that the funds were legitimately earned.
However, Justice Olatoregun held that the EFCC proved its claim beyond reasonable doubts, hence the forfeiture order.
