JAMB Extends UTME Registration

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has extended the registration exercise for the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to February 11.

JAMB Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede said a total of 1,451,691 applicants have registered for the examination, which was earlier scheduled to end yesterday.

This was a little below the 1.7 million candidates that sat for the 2017 exams. Also, 39,663 candidates registered for the Direct Entry.

Oloyede said this yesterday while receiving the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, who visited the board’s headquarters in Bwari, Abuja.

Prof Oloyede said the board would work with the EFCC in fighting corruption in the form of examination malpractices.

“We have in our custody some people who break into our Virtual Private Network. They are creating very-small-aperture terminal in Oshogbo and Ilesha, Osun State, and broadcasting across the country. These people are young boys and girls. They are only concerned about the money they get and not about the effects of their corrupt practices,” Oloyede said.

While speaking with newsmen, Magu said the commission would cooperate with JAMB to fight corruption in areas including, examination malpractices. (Daily Trust)
