11 die, 4 sustain injuries in accident along Akwanga – Lafia highway


No fewer than 11 lives were lost on Monday in an accident involving three vehicles while four others sustained injuries along Akwanga-Lafia highway in central Nigeria’s state of Nasarawa.
State commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Ismaila Maiwada-Kugu, who confirmed the accident to reporters, said the accident took place at Wowyen village on the outskirts of Akwanga area of the state.
“Three vehicles and 15 people were involved in the accident. Four persons were injured while 11 persons were killed,” he said.
Maiwada-Kugu said the injured were transported to the nearest hospital for treatment.
The road official appealed to drivers to always be cautious especially when at high speed or about to overtake other vehicles ahead of them so as to prevent unfortunate accidents.
Deadly road accidents are frequently reported in Nigeria often caused by overloading, bad condition of roads and reckless driving.
