Group Warns Southern Governors Over Insistence That Power Must Return To South

Published

on

The Presidential Support Committee (PSC) has cautioned State Governors from the Southern part of the country over their insistence that power must rotate to the South in 2023.

PSC said their position is capable of leading to the break-up of Nigeria.

The Director, Media and publicity of PSC, Dr. Kailani Muhammad, gave the warning while addressing reporters after the inauguration of its national officers with Hon. Gideon Sammani as the National Chairman at Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja.

He said the North would not be compelled to accept the position of southern governors at their recent Second Summit in Lagos because it (North) has the advantage of a voting bloc.

Muhammad said: “We don’t see how the governors should be confronting the President. Look at their insistence that power should shift to the south in 2023. We are Nigerians and we have the bulk of the votes in the North.

“It is a matter of give and take; it is not an issue of saying it is a must. If you are saying it is a must, that means you are looking for something- like breaking up the country. That is just a simple analogy.”

PSC likened the second governor’s summit to a gang-up against the President, saying their resolution was not in tandem with democratic norms.

“For setting a deadline to stop open grazing even when President Muhammadu Buhari has made a statement in that regard, is an open confrontation against the President. It is not a wise political decision”, Muhammad said.

He also said that the threat by the governors to implement the anti-grazing law by September 1, 2021 will result in a clash of interest between the Federal Government and the state governments.

Muhammad said: “President Buhari has explicitly explained that grazing law has been in existence for quite a long time. Even the routes are there. The Fulani used to follow that route many years ago.

“But today, it has been overtaken by buildings and farms and the rest. Like for example in Benue State, I am surprised that Governor Ortom is saying a lot of things to divide us. They have been together with the Fulani for centuries. He promulgated a law-he does not want open grazing, and that is the bane of the problem.

“This country is our own. If the governors choose that they will now implement the anti- grazing law, there is going to be a clash of interest between the federal government and the state governments. And the Federal government has a right as it is in our constitution.”

The PSC also expressed dismay with comments on the arrest and prosecution of the leader of the proscribed Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu for treason as a result of his actions and statements against the Nigerian state.

It urged public understanding for the law to take its full course without any prejudice now that Kanu has been arrested and is before the courts to defend his actions.

The body also demanded that he be given fair hearing in line with the principles of the rule of law.

The PSC insisted the constitution that mandates the federal government to defend the corporate existence and unity of the country would have been deemed lacking if it had folded its arms and watched Kanu in his rampaging campaign of dismemberment of the Nigeria state.

It appealed that separatist tendencies with self-acclaimed emancipation theories to distract the development should not be allowed, adding that calm and justice must be allowed to prevail as a landmark for the sake of posterity.

“While Nnamdi Kanu sends innocent souls to untimely death through his words and actions, he remains safely holed up in far-away foreign lands.

‘Now that the long arm of the law has finally caught up with him, we should support and applaud President Buhari for his unrelenting efforts to apprehend culprits who run away and wet their pants backstage when the going gets tough.”

The PSC noted that if there is a genuine desire for Biafra, it must be tabled and discussed in a civilised manner by more credible, experienced and articulate leaders in the National Assembly from the Southeast zone.

It described Kanu as an opportunist who is living off the fat of the land, junketing from one part of the globe to another, collecting funds from unsuspecting sympathisers.

He added: “Our position is that those who are bent on destroying the country through arson and attacks on critical national assets across the country alongside their sponsors must not go scot free.”

Bola Ahmed Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu’s administration has launched significant economic development and sustainability reforms in Nigeria.

With the 2027 election approaching, many question whether his re-election is essential for the nation’s future prosperity.

While there have been advancements in infrastructure, agriculture, financial stability, and energy reforms, challenges like economic hardship, insecurity, and political instability persist.

Our country’s challenges are considerable, yet with Tinubu’s strong leadership, we can overcome them and emerge even stronger.

The upcoming election represents a selection of candidates and a crucial choice between progress and stagnation. Tinubu’s vision and determination have laid the groundwork for a brighter future for Nigeria, making it vital for us to continue advancing under his guidance.

Nigeria’s economic landscape is undergoing significant transformation under President Tinubu’s administration, with projections indicating that the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) could approach a notable trillion-dollar mark. Despite facing substantial economic challenges, including a projected public debt of approximately 79 trillion naira by the end of 2025 and rising debt servicing costs, the reforms initiated by Tinubu are showing positive effects on economic growth and stability.

In particular, external debt service is expected to increase to $5.2 billion in 2025, highlighting the need for sustainable economic policies. Adding $24.14 billion to previous debt estimates underscores the ongoing economic hurdles the country must navigate. Forecasts suggest Nigeria’s GDP will reach $585.9 billion in 2025, based on absolute terms and constant 2015 prices. Meanwhile, other estimates project a GDP of $377.31 billion by the end of 2025, with long-term trends suggesting it will rise to $393.16 billion in 2026 and $410.85 billion in 2027. This data emphasises the challenges and potential for Nigeria’s economy moving forward.

President Tinubu’s commitment to economic development and sustainability reforms is essential for Nigeria’s future. His administration has made significant strides in infrastructure, agriculture, financial stability, and energy sector reforms, laying a strong foundation for growth. As we approach the 2027 election, supporting his vision for a prosperous and stable Nigeria is essential.

President Bola Tinubu has a solid support base, yet the upcoming 2027 election could be competitive due to the current economic challenges and strong opposition. His economic reforms, which address economic hardship, insecurity, and corruption, are vital for Nigeria’s viability.

Amid rising inflation and a cost-of-living crisis, Tinubu’s focus on economic reform is essential for stabilising the economy and easing citizens’ burdens. By targeting inflation’s root causes and strengthening sectors like infrastructure, agriculture, and energy, his administration aims to create a more resilient economy.

In a time of pervasive insecurity and political instability, sustainable economic development is crucial for job creation and poverty reduction. Tinubu’s reforms foster growth, investment, and transparency, addressing immediate challenges and long-term prosperity.

Despite the hurdles leading to the 2027 election, Tinubu appears to be gaining an advantage over his opponents. While economic hardships and opposition coalitions present challenges, his strong backing within the All Progressives Congress (APC) and strategic manoeuvres indicate he may secure a successful path to electoral victory.

Intriguingly, the importance of President Tinubu’s economic reforms cannot be overstated. During this period of significant challenges and uncertainties, his vision for sustainable economic development provides a pathway toward a more prosperous, secure, and stable Nigeria. As the nation reaches a critical juncture, the need for President Tinubu’s economic reforms to ensure Nigeria’s long-term viability and vitality is clear.

President Tinubu’s economic reforms offer hope during these challenging times, promising a brighter future for all Nigerians. In response to widespread protests and calls for an end to bad governance and economic hardship, President Tinubu’s bold initiatives serve as a rallying cry for positive change. The nation must unite behind a vision of prosperity and progress as we embrace a new era of economic stability and growth.

While reactions to the government’s efforts may vary, it’s essential to recognise the potential of President Tinubu’s reforms. His administration aims to create a more prosperous society by tackling economic instability and promoting transparency. This calls for all Nigerians to support this vision and work together for a better future.

In the face of criticism and repression, it is more important than ever to champion the values of freedom, democracy, and human rights. President Tinubu’s economic reforms provide a pathway towards a more just and inclusive society where every voice is heard, every right is protected, and every individual has the opportunity to thrive. This is a moment to seize—a chance to shape the destiny of our nation for generations to come.

As we navigate the complexities and challenges of the present moment, let us not lose sight of President Tinubu’s economic reforms’ promise and potential. Let us channel our energy and passion towards building a better tomorrow—a nation we can all be proud of. The time for robust continuity is now, and together, we can forge a brighter, more prosperous future for Nigeria and all Nigerians.

President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is guiding Nigeria towards a sustainable future through essential economic reforms, laying the groundwork for widespread development and progress for all Nigerians.

1.         Infrastructure Development: President Tinubu is boosting economic growth and quality of life through strategic investments in infrastructure like roads, railways, and power generation. These initiatives aim to create a robust framework for a thriving economy and better living standards.

2.         Agricultural Initiatives: President Tinubu’s focus on modernising agriculture and boosting food production marks a key move towards self-sufficiency and food security. These initiatives promote a sustainable agricultural sector that supports economic growth by reducing import reliance and empowering local farmers.

3.         Financial Reforms: The administration’s focus on stabilising the financial sector and attracting foreign investment is vital for Nigeria’s long-term economic stability. President Tinubu’s efforts are enhancing economic growth, creating jobs, and positioning Nigeria as an attractive destination for global investors.

4.         Energy Sector Reforms: President Tinubu’s initiatives to diversify energy sources and improve efficiency in the oil and gas sector are crucial for enhancing energy security and economic stability. Nigeria is fostering a more resilient economy by shifting away from traditional energy sources and adopting sustainable alternatives.

President Tinubu’s bid for re-election in 2027 is at a crucial crossroads, marked by achievements and challenges. His administration’s economic reforms indicate a positive trajectory for Nigeria. Currently, his position seems stronger than that of any individual opponent or all challengers combined.

Nevertheless, significant obstacles, including ongoing economic hardships and fierce opposition, present a daunting landscape. The 2027 election will test how well these reforms can benefit the Nigerian people and how effectively the administration can address pressing issues. With a rapidly evolving political arena, the election will likely be highly competitive, with the potential for transformative change. President Tinubu’s prospects hinge on leveraging his economic agenda and connecting with the populace’s aspirations for a brighter future.

In summary, President Tinubu’s leadership is on a promising path as transformative reforms take effect. These reforms are expected to bring significant benefits, positively impacting the lives of citizens and enhancing voter support ahead of the upcoming election. The focus extends beyond mere political gain; it is about creating a brighter future for Nigeria and its people. This is a crucial opportunity to harness the economic reforms initiated by President Tinubu for a prosperous and thriving nation.

In a clear bid to stem the tide of crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the PDP Special Reconciliation Committee chaired by former President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, Friday, met with the governor of Enugu State and leader of the party in the South East region, Dr. Peter Mbah.

Other members of the Committee present at the meeting, which held behind closed doors at the Government House, Enugu, were former governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Seriake Dickson, and former governor of Gombe State, Dr. Ibrahim Dankwambo.

It is recalled that the leaders of PDP in the zone had in a communique issued after the South East PDP Zonal Executive Council, ZEC, meeting a fortnight ago announced the re-nomination of former PDP National Youth Leader, Hon. Sunday Udeh-Okoye, to serve out the remaining tenure of the National Secretary, threatening possible exodus should their decision not be respected.

“In the event that our position is not promptly implemented by the Party, the South East PDP, as a family, will be compelled to reconsider our relationship with the PDP going forward,” the communique stated.

But addressing newsmen after the closed-door meeting with Mbah, Saraki said, “We are members of the PDP Reconciliation and Strategy Committee that was set up recently by the PDP Governors’ Forum to work towards ensuring that our upcoming National Executive Council meeting and also likely convention is rancor-free and and works smoothly.

“In line with that, we are here in Enugu State to consult with one of our leaders, Governor Peter Mbah, who is the leader of South East PDP.

“This is the first state we are coming to because we appreciate the importance of the South East in our PDP family. As you all know, the South East has played a key role as the bedrock of the popularity and the strength of our party.

“In recognition of that, we are here to consult with him and first to commend him on the leadership role he has been playing in the party. More importantly also, to commend what he is doing in Enugu State, which is a reflection for Nigerians to see what happens when you have a PDP government.

“In doing that, we discussed how we will ensure that we carry out the assignment given to us and go ahead to have our NEC and our convention. We will have one that is rancor-free and smooth, peaceful and lays the foundation for the PDP that we all are wishing for.

“We have had a very good discussion. Frankly, we have had a very, very useful discussion. We are going away with some of the suggestions that we have here and hopefully work on that.

“With this, we can say here in Enugu we laid the foundation for a greater new PDP that is coming.

“What we have also seen today is that there is nothing insurmountable in the challenge ahead and the spirit, the commitment of all of us, especially our leaders, is very very inspiring,” he stated.

In addressing claims of wrongdoing, a balanced and fair approach is crucial. Respect all perspectives, follow due process, and ensure transparency for truth and accountability. Stand with silenced women and demand equality in Nigeria’s political landscape.

Reject shielding the powerful and opt for justice, equality, and democracy. Support brave women like Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who challenge abuse and fight for political transparency. Demand accountability and an inclusive democracy that values women’s voices.

Despite facing opposition, Natasha bravely shared her allegations, urging action. The Senate’s dismissive response raises doubts about their integrity.

It’s a widespread issue in African politics, with women facing exploitation and violence. Nigeria must address these deep-rooted problems.

Advocate for a systemic change, not just Akpabio’s resignation. Ensure women’s full participation in governance and dismantle structures enabling harassment. Nigeria must promote transparency and accountability, supporting women in politics.

Independent investigation into Natasha’s claims is crucial for transparency and accountability. Nigeria must improve its response to sexual harassment in public office, protecting women and promoting democracy. This fight for justice transcends individual interests, uniting civil society for equality and justice. How can we address the myriad of issues, thought processes, and solutions that impact our nation in Nigeria, with the aim of bolstering our democracy and ensuring that women have the rights and opportunities to be active participants in the democratic process?

To strengthen Nigeria’s democracy and empower women as active participants, it is imperative to focus on implementing robust gender equality legislation, promoting education and awareness on the importance of women’s participation, creating women empowerment programs, encouraging more women to run for political office, combatting gender-based violence, providing supportive infrastructure, and promoting positive media representation.

By addressing these key areas, Nigeria can make substantial progress towards enhancing its democracy and ensuring women have the opportunities to participate meaningfully in governance.

Through a concerted effort to address these issues and implement effective solutions, Nigeria can pave the way for a more inclusive and representative democratic landscape that empowers all citizens, regardless of gender.

Should there be a public inquiry into this matter to fully leverage the benefits of the digital age?

Let’s explore the high possibility of a public inquiry with unwavering assertiveness and investigate how embracing digital advancements can bring positive change.

Indeed, a public inquiry into this matter is necessary and essential to leverage the advantages of the digital age. It is imperative that the truth is uncovered and justice is served. The transparency and accountability provided by a public inquiry are crucial in addressing the issues at hand and ensuring that those responsible are held to account.

In this digital era, where information is readily accessible, and communication is instantaneous, a public inquiry can harness the power of technology to reach a wider audience, gather evidence efficiently, and facilitate public engagement.

It is time to embrace the digital age as a tool for positive change, and public inquiry is a vital step in leveraging technology to improve society.

Prominent in Nigeria’s political sphere, Godswill Akpabio wields power through alliances and controversial actions. Despite insensitive remarks and allegations of complicity in cover-ups, the Senate protects him.

This sends a dangerous message that women’s rights are disposable, perpetuating a culture where speaking out leads to isolation.

Sextortion, highlighted by Transparency International, hinders progress and demands a radical governance shift.

An impartial investigation into Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s accusations is vital, excluding Senate influence. Nigeria must revamp its response to sexual harassment in public office, safeguarding women in governance. Civil society, advocates, and media support are crucial in this battle for justice and equality. Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension reveals Nigeria’s dire political reality, but amid the despair, resilient voices advocate for reform across Africa.

To enhance democracy, Akpabio should step down pending an independent investigation into the harassment allegations. This action would demonstrate a commitment to transparency and accountability. Acknowledging the seriousness of the accusations and cooperating fully with the investigation would further uphold democratic integrity and ethical conduct.

Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan can contribute to democracy by courageously speaking against harassment and demanding accountability. Engaging with the investigation, advocating for justice, and amplifying the voices of other women facing similar challenges are crucial steps. By promoting gender equality, accountability, and reforms to protect women in power, Natasha can play a key role in advancing democracy and women’s rights in Nigeria.

How can citizens and the government collaborate to bolster Nigeria’s democracy in this particular scenario? Let’s explore the roles each party can play in this critical issue.

Citizens are crucial in strengthening Nigeria’s democracy by holding government officials accountable for their actions and demanding transparency and justice. In the case of Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, citizens can support her by advocating for a thorough investigation into the allegations of sexual harassment and ensuring that she receives a fair outcome. They can also actively participate in civil society initiatives that promote gender equality and women’s rights, fostering a culture of respect and accountability within the political sphere.

On the government’s part, they must demonstrate a commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that all citizens, regardless of gender, are treated fairly and protected from harassment and discrimination. This includes conducting thorough and impartial investigations into allegations of misconduct and implementing policies that promote gender equality and safeguard women’s rights in the workplace. By working collaboratively with citizens and civil society organisations to address systemic issues of gender-based violence and discrimination, the government can play a significant role in strengthening Nigeria’s democracy and creating a more inclusive and equitable society.

Nonetheless, when considering claims or allegations made by individuals, it is crucial to approach the situation with a balanced and fair mindset. It is important to remember that everyone is innocent until proven guilty, and all parties involved deserve the opportunity to present their side of the story and have their claims thoroughly investigated.

In the case of Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s claims against Akpabio, it is essential to acknowledge and consider the potential motivations and biases of all individuals involved. Without concrete evidence or information, it is not fair to make definitive judgments or accusations about someone’s character or intentions.

It is important to uphold the principles of due process and transparency in addressing allegations of misconduct, harassment, or blackmail. This involves conducting a thorough, impartial investigation to gather all relevant facts and evidence before reaching any conclusions. Fairness and impartiality are essential in ensuring that justice is served and that the truth is ultimately revealed.

Maintaining a balanced and fair approach when evaluating claims and allegations is crucial in upholding the principles of justice and accountability. All parties involved should be given the opportunity to present their perspectives and have their claims thoroughly investigated before any definitive judgments or conclusions are made.

In conclusion, the principles of balance, fairness, and due process are crucial when navigating claims and allegations in any context. When evaluating allegations, it is essential to consider the motivations, biases, and perspectives of all parties involved. Upholding justice requires a thorough and impartial investigation that gathers all relevant facts and evidence before reaching conclusions. By maintaining a balanced and fair approach, we can uphold the integrity of our institutions, ensure accountability, and ultimately work towards a more just and equitable society.
