Ali-Modu Sheriff is back to APC

Former factional national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff will Thursday formally return to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Checks revealed that the former Borno state governor will be received at the ruling party national secretariat along with his supporters by the national chairman of the party, Chief Odigie Oyegun.

Senator Sheriff was a pioneer chieftain of the APC, having joined the erstwhile main opposition party as member of the defunct All Nigerian People’s Party, (ANPP). He defected to the PDP in 2014 in controversial circumstances having lost out in the power play at the national secretariat of the APC which accorded the Borno state governor, Ibrahim Shettima the status of leader of the party.

His sojourn in the PDP was also dogged by controversies as he struggled for the position of national chairman with former Kaduna state governor, Senator Ahmed Makarfi until the Supreme Court declared his claim illegal and pronounced Senator Makarfi the authentic PDP National Chairman.
