ADP4VIP: FG Dismisses Allegations of Targeting Opposition
Federal Government Debunks “ADP4VIP” Allegations, Reaffirms Commitment to Rule of Law and Constitutional Freedoms | By: ORJI ISRAEL

The Federal Government of Nigeria has categorically denied the existence of any plans to unlawfully arrest, detain, or prosecute opposition figures, describing such claims as deliberate disinformation.
According to the statement signed by Mohammed Idris, Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation Federal Republic of Nigeria, this clarification follows the circulation of a fabricated document alleging the establishment of a multi-agency task force for a purported programme tagged “ADP4VIP” (Arrest, Detain, Prosecute for Very Important Persons).
The baseless document falsely asserts that the Office of the National Security Adviser is coordinating the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) to target prominent politicians, particularly within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), without due process.
Setting the Record Straight
The Federal Government wishes to state emphatically:
- Non-Existence of “ADP4VIP”: There is no such programme, task force, or agenda within the Federal Government or any of its security apparatuses.
- Focus on National Mandate: The administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, remains firmly focused on implementing measurable economic reforms, defeating insecurity, expanding trade, and restoring investor confidence.
- Accountability is Not Targeting: The attempt by certain elements to frame lawful accountability as political targeting is a “red herring” designed to shield individuals from answering to national laws and anti-corruption agencies.
Commitment to Constitutional Democracy
The Government underscores that Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) guarantees every Nigerian the right to freely associate and assemble. As a lifelong democrat, President Tinubu remains unwavering in his oath to uphold these constitutional protections.
“Nigeria is a constitutional democracy where law enforcement and judicial agencies are obligated to perform their duties professionally and independently,” the statement read. “This administration will not interfere with the lawful mandate of institutions to operate in the nation’s best interest.”
A Warning Against Disinformation
With the 2027 general elections on the horizon, the Government alerts the public to a projected increase in fabricated narratives and political blackmail. Citizens are enjoined to remain vigilant and reject the “politics of distortion” employed by actors seeking relevance through falsehoods.
Looking Ahead to 2026
As the nation draws the curtain on 2025, the Federal Government maintains that it will not be distracted by “perpetual politicking.” The Tinubu Administration remains dedicated to delivering continuity, progress, and tangible results for all Nigerians in the new year.
Every Nigerian retains the constitutional right to lawful political activity, just as security institutions retain the mandate to uphold the law without fear or favour.
