Nigeria’s revolutionary free Wi-Fi service app, Red Cheetah, on Sunday, August 19, emerged Nigeria’s best trending app on Google Play Store in the lifestyle category.

Prior to its emergence, the app has maintained its position in the top 10 apps in this category.

The app, which was launched in March this year by Nigeria’s leading broadband service provider, SWIFT Networks beat stiff competition from other top e-commerce, fashion and celebrity apps in the lifestyle category to achieve this feat.

It has so far witnessed over 60,000 downloads with actively daily growing usage sessions at the over 400 live hotspots in the various parts of Lagos, including the Hard Rock Cafe, Barcelos, Tastee Fried Chicken, Sweet Sensation, 3CHub, SLOT, major tertiary institutions and BRT buses.

It offers free fast and secure broadband Wi-Fi service to users supported by advertising revenue from leading global brands with strong corporate social responsibility credentials.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of SWIFT Networks, Mr. Charles Anudu, said: “Red Cheetah is at the heart of the digital inclusion dream of the government and lifestyle of our teeming young population. We are particularly thrilled by the pent up demand for free fast and secure Wi-Fi services as complemented by the impressive ratings on Google Play Store by our teeming users. It is proving to be the ideal service model to deepen internet penetration among Nigeria’s unserved and underserved populations. Our early lessons will be applied to improve user experience as we expand our footprint into the other markets in collaboration with our partners and sponsors”

Upon download, users enjoy 1GB of free internet data per device per day. The Red Cheetah app works by establishes a secure Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection to the SWIFT internet gateway to ensure the privacy of any data communication via this service.

To enjoy the Red Cheetah free Wi-Fi service, users are required to download the Red Cheetah app from the Google Play Store and follow a simple, one-time registration process as required by the regulation guiding such services.

The iOS version of the RED CHEETAH app is expected to be launched soon to further expand the number of people who could enjoy this service.
