The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has appealed to Enugu State residents to co-operate with its customers’ enumerators in order to improve service delivery.

EEDC’s Head of Communications, Emeka Ezeh, said in a statement issued at the weekend in Enugu, that the ongoing exercise was beneficial to both the company and its numerous customers.

Ezeh said that the company was using Enugu as a pilot state for the exercise before extending it to other South-East states within its electricity servicing coverage.

“The exercise is aimed at facilitating comprehensive metering of all electricity customers; easy identification of all electrical assets and their state; identification of all existing customers and adequate planning for potential customers.

“Other benefits include network expansion; improved power supply, and quick response to faults; effective power distribution and monitoring through remote censoring.

“It is also aimed at ensuring prompt identification of damaged and non-functional equipment for replacement as well as improved customer service delivery,” he said.

According to him, the exercise, which effectively commenced in 2017, with Enugu State as the pilot, will soon be extended to other states within EEDC’s franchise areas.

“Customers are therefore encouraged to cooperate with our enumerators when they visit their homes, and avail them with necessary information needed to make this project a success,’’ he said.

He noted that EEDC had been using Geographical Information System (GIS) technology to facilitate the exercise.

Ezeh said that the GIS technology allowed for efficient mapping of the entire electrical network system.

This, he said, was by updating its database and also capturing all electrical assets within its network, with each part of the infrastructure registered on the map.

He added that the project was also expected to improve EEDC’s decision making in its operations.
