BY: Ikenna Oluka
Chief Onyekachi Iheme, the Senatorial candidate of the Accord Party (AP) in the February 23 National Assembly election conducted in Abia north district and now, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress(APC), has stated that there was nothing to celebrate in Abia State.
According to him, the state Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu and the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP)-led administration, have failed to dispense democratic dividends to the people.
Iheme opined that the poor living standard of Abia people has deteriorated under Ikpeazu-led administration, urging the Governor to think firstly, about the suffering Abians as he assumed office for a second term.
The APC chieftain, who made his position known, in an interview with select journalists in Umuahia, on Thursday, claimed that the infrastructure deficits in the state have continued to impede local and foreign investments to thrive in the state.
Iheme said, “I can only wish him (governor) success in the quest to continue to govern Abia for second tenure. Governance is about trust, the people have placed on him. And he should think about the suffering Abians first. He is expected to fulfill his campaign promises.
“It is a shame that Abia has continued to be worst state in the whole of South East geo-political zone. In all the indices, you can see that, there is nothing to celebrate in Abia state. The governor has failed to show any achievements for the four years of his first tenure. So, Ikpeazu-led government has a case with history. And it is for him to use this opportunity that he still have, to work for the people and aimed his place in history.”
Recall that Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu was sworn-in for a second term as the Executive Governor of Abia state.
The Governor, flanked by his wife, Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu, took an oath of office, administered by the Chief Judge of Abia state, Honourable Justice K.O Ogwe.
