Yobe Government Slashes Civil Servants’ Salaries By 10% To Repair Schools Boko Haram Destroyed

Yobe State government has considered slashing the salaries of its civil servants by 10 percent to repair schools wrecked by Boko Haram terrorists in the state.
Governor Mai Mala Buni-led government disclosed this in a statement by the state Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Muhammad Lamin.
Lamin who spoke at a press briefing on Monday in Damaturu, the state capital, said insurgency had impacted negatively on the educational sector in the state.
He explained that the decision to take a cut from salaries of the government workers was to ginger collective action to revive the sector ravaged by a decade-long insurgency.
“Apart from reaching out to people outside government, we feel that civil servants in the state should also give their modest contribution to the programme by contributing 10 per cent of their November basic salary. By this briefing, therefore, civil servants are informed that the deduction will be for only the month of November 2021,” Mr Buni had pointed out.
“In this regard, the government is appealing to civil servants in the state to heartily support the government in her bid to rescue our state from the catastrophe of educational decay,” the statement added.
