Dangote Contracts Honeywell International for Major Refinery Capacity Upgrade to 1.4 million barrels per day

The Dangote Group has taken a significant step toward expanding the operational capacity of its world-class refinery, as the company has contracted Honeywell International to execute a major upgrade project aimed at scaling production capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day (bpd).
The partnership marks a strategic milestone for Nigeria’s downstream and industrial sectors, positioning the Dangote Refinery to become one of the largest and most advanced facilities globally once the upgrade is completed.
According to industry sources, Honeywell International, one of the world’s foremost engineering, automation, and industrial technology firms, will provide cutting-edge process control systems, refinery optimization technologies, and critical infrastructure enhancements required to support the expanded output.
The contract is expected to accelerate the refinery’s long-term plan to meet both domestic fuel demand and export commitments across Africa and beyond.
The upgrade aligns with Aliko Dangote’s broader vision to reduce Nigeria’s dependence on fuel imports, stabilize supply, and boost national energy security.
By pushing capacity to 1.4 million bpd, the refinery strengthens its potential to become a dominant player in the global energy market.
Industry analysts say the collaboration is another strong indication of investor confidence in the refinery’s operational framework and Nigeria’s growing role in the global refining landscape.
The expanded capacity is expected to stimulate job creation, enhance foreign exchange earnings, and support the broader industrialization agenda.
More details on the scope, timelines, and the phased implementation of the upgrade are expected to be released by both companies in the coming weeks.
